The two-day event, which attractshundreds of thousands ofspectators to Sunderland?s stunning coastline at Roker and Seaburn, is now the biggest free airshow in Europe.
Theprogramme for the weekend is action-packed. Highlights includea United States Air Force B-52 bomber. The Stratofortress last appeared in the skies above Sunderland at the Airshow six years ago.
This, the 22nd Sunderland International Airshow, also features the RAF's premier aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, who will this year appear on Sunday only, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the RAF's most advanced fighter aircraft, the Typhoon (Eurofighter).
Also making a welcome return this year is an RAF Harrier jump-jet, along with favourites the Royal Netherlands Air Force with their F16s, the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display Team and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.
There will also be extensive displays, exhibitions and entertainment on the ground including the RAF College Band and The Royal Marines Commando Display Team.
HMS Westminster, a Type 23 Frigate launched in 1992, is to provide the backdrop for the spectacular show which will attract hundreds and thousands of visitors from across the region and beyond.

Stay Safe
Due to the large crowds expected at the event, please ensure that you:
- Identify a specific meeting point on arrival at the event.
- Attach wristbands to your children, these are available from the information points, stewards and police officers, alternatively, provide your child with your mobile phone number.
- Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Buses
There will be a special express shuttle service 510, running over the weekend from outside of Wilkinsons, Fawcett Street in Sunderland City Centre to the Recreation Ground at Seaburn.The service will run every 10 mins between 10.20 and 19.00 and call at The Wheatsheaf, Newcastle Road (next to the Stadium of Light Metro), Station Road (next to Seaburn Metro).On the return journey, the service will leave from the Recreation Ground, before calling at Station Road and Newcastle Road and terminating at Joplings in the City Centre.
On Saturday 24 July, passengers from Sunderland can also catch services 18/19 to Roker and Seaburn from Sunderland City Centre, although these will follow slightly different routes from normal in the Seaburn area.Services E1 and E6 will not operate from Sunderland between 10.00 and 18.00, and Service E2 will not serve Fulwell and Seaburn between these times. From South Shields, Services E1 and E6 will operate between South Shields Market and Seaburn Camp only between 10.00 and 18.00, and Service E2 will follow a different route from Whitburn.
On Sunday 25 July 2009, passengers from Sunderland should catch the special express shuttle service 510 detailed above. From South Shields, there will be an increased daytime timetable, with Services E1, E2 and E6 all operating every 20 minutes.Services E1 and E6 will only operate between South Shields and Seaburn Camp between 1000 and 1800. Although Service E2 will continue to operate between South Shields and Sunderland (every 20 minutes), these buses will not be able to serve the Fulwell and Seaburn areas.
