Sacred on Location is a unique and engaging touring programme celebrating the diversity of religious traditions within Britain today and explores the many links between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the three religions that have shaped so much of European history and civilisation.

The exhibition comprises a number of display panels and interactive displays including an IMAC screen enabling you to virtually leaf through manuscripts and allowing you to explore information about customs and rituals from the three faiths. Sunderland is one of only nine locations chosen in England to host the touring exhibition on loan from the British Museum in London, whose Sacred exhibition in 2007 attracted over 200,000 visitors.
Sunderland City Council in partnership with faith groups from across the region have organised a series of workshops to accompany the exhibition with the aim of bringing communities together to contemplate faith and what it means to different people. Talks and sessions have been programmed and replicas of the Codex Amiatinus and Lindisfarne Gospels will be on display alongside artefacts on loan from religious establishments across the region.
Sacred on Location will be on display during normal opening hours on the ground floor of the City Library and Arts Centre on Fawcett Street in Sunderland. All activities are free of charge.
A launch event will be held on 11th May with a Celebration of Faith at Sunderland Minster. Following the ceremony faith leaders and civic dignitaries will make their way to the City Library and Arts Centre where the Mayor will officially open the exhibition to the public. (Further information to follow)
Sacred on Location has been on display in Sheffield, Bristol, Derby, Manchester, Leicester, Bradford, Leeds & Liverpool prior to Sunderland.
